Paying tributes to Edmond Hillary, the man who scaled the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest on 29 May, 1953, thirteen-year old Malavath Purna, a student of the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential School, scaled Mt. Everest on Sunday morning.
She has become the youngest girl to reach the mountain’s peak. Purna is the daughter of Laxmi and Devidas, agricultural labourers in Kaliveri village, Sirikonda mandal, Nizamabad.
Edmond Hillary and Sherpa Tenzin were the two mountaineers who scaled Mount Everest on 29th of May 1953. Though a controversy had followed to establish who stepped on the peak, Hillary or Tenzin.
