Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam box office-collection have done well enough on day 1 (Friday) to collect Rs 8.5 crore, but not as well as some expected – considering that almost every movie featuring a big star (Saman khan,s Bajrangi Bhaijaan), or a big theme (Baahubali) releasing nowadays is turning into a money-spinner. Drishyam box office collections on day 2 did rise but by a negligible amount. It received Rs 9.4 crore on Saturday for a total of Rs 17.45 crore in the domestic market.

Some have blamed the fact that Drishyam is a very lengthy movie and that this is not appreciated by the audiences any longer. But the fact is that Drishyam is a thriller and keeps the audience rivetted to their seats as the adventures slowly unwind. Another reason being bandied about is that the hero, Ajay Devgn in this instance, who has a wife and kids, is not as captivating of the imagination as a single, macho man.

Be that as it may, the figures speak for themselves as to the impact that Drishyam and Ajay Devgn have had on the theatre-thronging public.

With the weekend on us, Drishyam is expected to do much better as it received great reviews and the word-of-mouth is expected to be as positive.

However, as Saturday’s earnings show, the movie is falling short of the promise held forth by the reviewers.
