Aruna Shanbaug, a Mumbai nurse Dies After 42-year Coma after her rape in 1973

Aruna Shanbaug, a Mumbai medical caretaker who was assaulted in 1973 by a staff part at the doctor’s facility she worked in, has passed on subsequent to being in a state of unconsciousness for a long time. She was 68.

She was 26 years old and a junior nurse at the hospital when Ms Shanbaug was brutally assaulted and raped allegedly by a ward boy and cleaner named Sohanlal Bharta Valmiki. She was choked with a dog chain.

She was found in the healing facility’s cellar, the iron chain around her neck, 11 hours after she had been sodomized and strangled.

Valmiki, who the youthful attendant had apparently chastened for taking nourishment that was implied for stray creatures embraced by the doctor’s facility, was striven for theft, not assault.

In 2011, the Supreme Court rejected a petition by author Pinki Virani to stop force feeding the Ms Shanbaug. Ms Virani, who had authored a book titled ‘Aruna’s Story,’ had argued for euthanasia.
