Bus Carrying Russian Nationals Plunged Into Bhagirathi River, 2 Killed

Two Russian nationals were killed and nine other injured when a tourist bus carrying them plunged into the Bhagirathi river. The bus was on its way to Gangotri in Uttarakhand. The driver supposedly lost control of the bus near Bhagori village in Uttarkashi district. Tuesday. 

One passenger is still missing. Among the injured eight were women. 

According to the reports, bodies of two Russians, one of them a woman, have been recovered while one of the passengers was missing. Soon after the incident, the senior officials reached the spot and began rescue operation. The injured were immediately taken to Jolly Grant hospital in Dehradun.

Bhagirathi river is one of the two head streams of the Ganga and is considered as the source stream of the holy river. 

In June last year, flash floods caused from heavy rainfall swept away mountainsides, villages and towns, thousands of people, animals, agricultural fields, irrigation canals, domestic water sources, dams, roads, bridges, and buildings in. Over 10,000 people were killed in the natural disaster.
