There Was No Deal With PM’s Brother For Joining BJP: Badal

Punjab Chief  Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal has categorically denied all allegations of a Rs.3-crore deal between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s stepbrother Daljeet Singh and the BJP.

“Daljeet Singh has joined the BJP as he was unhappy with the policies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He was also dissatisfied with the PM as he failed to make any major contribution to Punjab during his tenure. He hopes that Narendra Modi’s government will assure overall development of the country,” Badal told mediapersons.

Meanwhile, Daljeet who was inaccessible all throughout the day, was seen at a rally with BJP’s Amritsar candidate Arun Jaitley and Punjab revenue minister Bikram Majithia.

Daljeet’s decision to join the BJP has sparked a family feud. The families of Daljeet Singh and Surjeet Singh, which claimed they were living peacefully till Friday, are now involved in a public dispute over whether Daljeet was rewarded with cash for teaming with the BJP.

Joining the debate Daljeet’s son Kanwarpreet Singh rejected the allegations against his father. “My father was never a Congressman. His brother is the PM since the last decade, but that does not mean that the whole family should only endorse Congress ideology. He has every right to join any political party. Nobody can stop him, not even me. I appeal to our family members not to spread such rumours and come forward to support Arun Jaitley so that Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister,” Kanwarpreet said.

Kanwarpreet also said that though his uncle Surjeet Singh was never seen in any Congress event during the last 10 years, he is now attending roadshows where his son Mandeep is defaming Daljeet by levelling false charges against him. Daljeet’s son also claimed that his father had close relations with Jaitley over the past decade, but only joined the BJP as he was contesting the election.

Mandeep had on Saturday alleged that Daljeet had accepted Rs.3 crore to join the saffron party and similar offers were also made to other family members, but the others had rejected the deal. Surjeet had also said efforts will be made to pacify Daljeet and make him change his decision.
