A day after she went missing, a four-year-old girl was found murdered with police suspecting that she might have been killed after a sexual assault in Chandigarh.
The episode prompted vicious dissent by family of the young lady and local people who harmed a few vehicles including those fitting in with the police.
Police had to resort to lobbing tear gas shells and cane-charge to control the mob.
“A missing complaint was filed by the child’s parents last night.
“Immediately, we started the search, but unfortunately the girl’s body was found today. A case of abduction and murder has been added to the FIR which already stood registered last night,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (East) Parvinder Singh said.
Chandigarh’s SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that probe was under progress and police was hopeful of making arrests soon.
“At this stage we cannot confirm if the victim was raped also, which will be established only after the post mortem examination,” Gill said today, after parents of the victim and locals staged protest here.
The victim’s family said that she was last seen around 9 PM by her father at their house after which she suddenly disappeared.
The victim’s nude body was found dumped in the woods this morning, with injuries on her private parts, police said.
The circumstance in the province turned strained after the kid’s body was recouped and overwhelming police power must be conveyed to keep up peace. The young lady’s guardians and different local people dissented against the occurrence.
Victim’s family has alleged that police failed to take action on time.
