India take first innings lead, Dhawan hits ton

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan struck an unbeaten ton while captain Virat Kohli stayed unbeaten on 86 to help India take a 44-run first innings lead at lunch on Day Two in the first Test match against hosts Sri Lanka here. The match is being played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

Dhawan (110), who scored his third Test century, was very much supported by Kohli as the pair stood firm to built an unbeaten 199-run partnership for the third wicket to take India’s score to 227/2 in 63 overs after the end of the first session’s play on Day Two.

Prior, the guests finished their first day’s play at 128/2 at stumps after off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin destroyed the has’ batting line-up with an amazing six-wicket pull to package out Sri Lanka for 183 in the first innings.
