Is Salman’s Sultan Becoming A Nightmare For Aamir’s Dangal?

The latest is that his buddy Aamir Khan is keeping a tab on his upcoming filmSultan. Sources reveal that Aamir is slightly worried about his own film Dangalcompeting against this one.

And for those who have just woken up unaware about the connection between the two films, these pointers might help you connect the dots:

1.  Both films are based on wrestling

Is Salman's Sultan Becoming A Nightmare For Aamir's Dangal?

While Sultan is the story of a Haryanvi wrestler named Sultan Ali Khan, it also includes elements of romance even as wrestling forms its main backdrop. Dangal is also a biopic on wrestler Mahavir Phogat, and traces his journey as a player and how he encourages his daughters Geeta and Babita to take up the sport.

2.  Strikingly similar climax

Salman is going to wrestle his son in the climax of Sultan. In Dangal too, Aamir would be seen wrestling his own daughter.

3.  Clash of locations

Both the films were supposed to be shot around same locations in Punjab and Haryana. But we hear, Salman has shifted the location of his film for his Andaz Apna Apna co-star Aamir. Salman will now shoot in Karjat to avoid replication.

4.  Yash Raj connection

Aamir shares a close friendship with Yash Raj Films’ head Aditya Chopra. Considering Sultan is a Yash Raj Film, Aamir has been asking Aditya questions about Sultan and keeping a tab on its shooting too.

5.  Release dates

While Sultan is set to rule the box office at Salman’s favourite festive weekend of Eid next year, Dangal will release during Christmas, the time Aamir prefers for all his releases. Now, one can argue that Salman’s film may have an edge over Aamir’s considering it will release 3 months prior.

But it’s not the first time that Bollywood films with similar plots will be clashing.

We all know the three films which released in 2002,  based on the life of revolutionary martyr Bhagat Singh with Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol and Sonu Sood in the lead roles. Only one garnered some acclaim while other two vanished without a trace.

Also there are very few which made a mark from the long list of films based on the Romeo and Juliet love-story.

And now with both Dangal and Sultan wrestling it out, 2016 seems to be an action-packed year and we can’t wait for the bell to ring!
