In a shocking development to India cricket, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect after suffering another overseas series defeat.
“MS Dhoni has chosen to retire from Test Cricket with immediate effect,” the BCCI said on its Twitter feed.
The announcement comes just weeks before India are due to begin their defence of the 50-over World Cup trophy that Dhoni lifted on home soil in 2011.
India are already 0-2 down and lost the ongoing four-Test series against Australia. India salvaged a draw in the third Test which ended today at the MCG.
Virat Kohli will be leading the team in the last and fourth Test against Australia at SCG, starting on 6 January, 2015.
