Modi To Meet Prez Today To Stake Claim To Form Government

To stake claim to form government, BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi will meet President Pranab Mukherjee today as NDA allies and prospective allies are queuing up to meet him.

Emerging from his meeting with Mr. Modi, the YSR chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy said he offered “issue-based support” to Mr Modi, though “he doesn’t need it.”

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal are expected to meet the BJP leaders today.

Mr Badal is expected to be accompanied by his son and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is the MP from Bhatinda, and the other party MPs.

Lok Janshakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have already met Mr Modi.

BJP leaders, in the meantime, made a beeline for the RSS headquarters here. Arun Jaitley and Amit Shah met RSS leaders, a day after Mr. Modi had a meeting with them.

Newly-elected BJP MPs, including former Home Secretary R.K. Singh, Delhi MPs Udit Raj, Manoj Tiwari, senior UP leader Vinay Katiyar and party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar, too, held meetings with senior RSS functionaries at the Sangh’s Delhi headquarters.

The BJP Parliamentary Party will elect Mr Modi as its leader after which he will meet the President at 2.30 p.m.
