One More Week To Constitute SIT On Black Money: SC

The Supreme Court today granted one week’s more time to Government to constitute Special Investigative Team to probe and monitor all black money cases.

The apex court has directed that all documents relating to black money must be kept in safe custody of secretary-level officer of revenue department.

The Centre had on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of deadline by a week to implement its order on issuing a notification on reconstitution of the SIT to probe all cases of black money by appointing its former judge M B Shah as chairman. The application in this regard was filed a day before the three week deadline, set by the apex court on May 01.

Besides Justice Shah, the apex court also appointed its retired judge Arijit Pasayat as the Vice Chairman of the Special Investigating Team (SIT) for providing guidance and direction in the investigation of all cases of black money in the country and abroad.

Justice Shah, who was earlier appointed as Vice Chairman by July 4, 2011 order, will take the place of former apex court judge B P Jeevan Reddy who has expressed his inability to continue as Chairman due to personal reasons.
