PM Modi arrives in France, India ‘reflects direct buy of Rafale planes

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi may achieve a leap forward on a since quite a while ago postponed arrangement to purchase Rafale fighter planes from France in chats with the French president on Friday, reports said.

India’s administration has been in arrangements since 2012 to purchase 126 Rafale planes from France’s Dassault Aviation, however the assessed $12 billion dollar arrangement has hit barriers over expense and gathering of the planes.

Reports said ahead of talks between Modi and French President Francois Hollande on Friday that the government was considering a direct purchase of a sionship. Both the Indian defence ministry and Dassault declined to comment.

Akbaruddin said India expects French companies to participate in ‘Make in India’ programme in the field of defence as well as civil nuclear energy, “where India can make some nuclear installations with France.”

Modi, who arrived here on Friday on a four-day visit, will also address two meetings with French CEOs — one on infrastructure and another on defence.
