PM Modi uninvited to Congress’ conference on Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary

Both Congress and BJP seem to be crossing swords on the occasion of Nehru’s 125th birth anniversary.

Seeking an opportunity to embarrass BJP, Congress has decided to minus Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name from the list of world leaders for a commemorative international conference which the party is organising to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru from November 17.

The two-day international conference will be held from Nov 17 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.

Addressing reporters at Congress HQ, party spokesperson Anand Sharma confirmed that PM Modi has not been invited to the event.

He added, “54 world leaders have been invited for the conference. The Congress will kick-off the year-long celebrations on November 14, Nehru’s birthday, with a function in Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium where party president Sonia Gandhi will administer a pledge to party workers to uphold and reaffirm the Nehruvian vision.”

Observers believe that the step has been taken by Congress after no member of the Nehru-Gandhi family found a place in the committee headed by PM Modi.

Interestingly, the Government of India under Prime Minister Modi has also allocated Rs 20 crore to plan events to mark Nehru’s birth anniversary.
