The wide spread anti-Sikh riots in 1984 resulted in the killing of close to 8,000 including 3,000 in Delhi alone. The riots were in response to the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards. The riots were ignited with death of Indira Gandhi.
Rajiv Gandhi Government stayed mourned over the issue for 3 days until army came in to rescue.
